Frequently Asked Questions
Accounts & Billing
All structures require a 50% deposit when the order is placed.
If you receive a grant from the NRCS for your tunnel and are an underserved individual, you can receive up to 50% of the total grant to help pay for it. When the tunnel is delivered to your location, you will be required to pay the balance due for the tunnel.
Once you have completed building the tunnel, you can have it inspected by the NRCS office, and then they will pay you the balance of your grant funds. If you are not using grant funds, then you can complete whenever you want.
Getting the structure typically takes about two weeks from the time the deposit is paid.
Once the deposit has been paid, manufacturing your structure will begin. You will be informed of the progress so you can be ready to take delivery. The balance due for the structure must be paid in full when it is delivered to your location.
If anything is missing, or there is damage to any parts they will be replaced as soon as possible.
This is normally not a problem since we have systems in place to double check everything before it leaves the factory. Things do happen, and we will do whatever is necessary to make it right.
How do I get a NRCS grant
Applying for a grant is not difficult, it just takes a few steps.
First thing you need to do is call your local NRCS office. Here is a link to the USDA web site that allows you to look up your local office. They will explain the steps in more detail, but we will go over some of the steps now.
Getting your land designated as a farm.
The local FSA office will determine if you can have your land designated as a farm or not. If it can be, then you can have them do that paperwork. When they have completed their part, they will notify the NRCS office.
Determining the correct size can be difficult.
Some of the time it is made easier by the size of your area you want to put it. If you have a small property, it will set the maximum size of a tunnel that you can put there. If you have a huge plot of land, you have to start by determining what you actually are going to use it for.
Building the structure
Setting the ground posts in the ground is not difficult if you have the right equipment.
Putting them in with a gas powered pounder is the best method. You will need a post level, the pounder, and a laser level or string level and string line. We offer this as a service for an additional fee. The charge is $10 per post installed. This includes making the structure a true rectangle and installing the posts in the correct locations plumb, level, and trimmed to the same height, so your tunnel will be level when complete. If you have a 100 foot long tunnel, it has 52 posts. If you have a 36 foot tunnel it has 20 posts.
